From the SpaceCadet's Log:

There’s something about squeezing every last moment of the summer in before it disappears. Plunging into the deep end of the pool every chance you get… slurping down soda cream popsicles before they melt all over your hands… and lying on your back in the tall grass as the sky fades from blue to black…

Because although knitters and crocheters are perhaps more eager than most to move onto autumn and the sweater weather it brings, we’re all really just kids at heart. And there’s nothing like the last days of summer to remind us of that!

To create this beautiful colourway, we mixed up an intense teal-blue – somewhere between the (deliciously unnatural) blueberry flavouring of that cream soda popsicle and the painted bottom of the community pool – and submerged the skeins in just a little, leaving most of the skein natural. As the dye soaked in, it wicked up the fibers and faded along the skein, giving the colour lovely depth of shade. And then we mixed up an (equally unnatural and delicious) grape flavouring hue, and squidged it along the yarn, allowing it to mix with the blue in places and hold its own in others.

The result is a colourway that is delightfully fresh and clean, full of the promise of youthe and the fun of late summer days, that will work up into an overall pattern of that lovely teal and white, highlighted with sweet pops of that lovely purple.

Coordinating Colourways! Community Pool & Splish Spash

And for the coordinating colourways, we used the same hues in completely different ways. For our painterly skein, we layered the colours over the whole yarn, letting them swirl in the dyebath and strike the fibers wherever they chose. And for our semi-solid, we amped up the teal, deepening the colour and increasing the intensity as it covered the whole skein. Then we applied the purple gently, to create a wash of depth to the whole colourway… Is that an ominous shadow lurking in the deep end of the pool?

Capella is a fabulously smooshy single-ply worsted yarn that's perfect for bulkier, cool-weather projects.

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash Merino; 1-ply
Weight: Worsted; Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 195 yards per 100g

An important note about skein matching: As you all know, different dyelots rarely match perfectly, especially in hand-dyed yarns, and even more especially in a variegated colourway like this one. Although we will do everything in our power to replicate the yarns from first dyelot, the yarn you receive may not match perfectly. Do bear this in mind if an exact match is important to you. To minimise any visible impact when using hand-dyed yarns, we always recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows in your project.
