The Illumintated Wrap

Shop/SeasonalCollections&LimitedEditions

At the base of cold medieval stone walls, moving along dark passages and through arched doorways, the air is heavy with the smell of old books, dying embers, and dark shadows. Skittering in the corners, are those mice…? Or perhaps they are the mythical creatures come to life, emerging from an illuminated manuscript left open on a long, wooden table and illustrated with mysteries of the centuries.

Three colourways come together in the Illuminated Wrap, inspired by the dark, academic shades of ancient scribes and the creatures they created – kelpies, gryphons, dragons – and infused with hints of gilt and mist, a sense of brooding, and lingering intrigue.

Knit in soft rose gilded with golds, deep amethyst tinged by oxblood, and gentle sage awash with emerald, these are glorious colours to delight you stitch by stitch.

Skills you'll need to have in order to make the Illuminated Wrap:

  • casting on and binding off
  • knitting and purling
  • slipping stitches
  • making tassels
  • working a Crosshatching stitch (if this is a technique you haven't done before, it can be little tricky at first, but is actually incredibly easy once you get the hang of it -- and if you'd prefer to see it in action, the pattern includes a very quick video demonstration to help you see what to do)

Included in your purchase: a 6-page PDF download of the Illuminated Wrap knitting pattern, containing instructions to make the garment shown, with colour photos of the finished object and a link to a video demonstration of the Crosshatching technique. No printed copy of the pattern is included. For reasons beyond our technical ability to fix, the checkout process will give you both a free (download) delivery option and a shipping rate, but please do not choose the shipping rate if you are ordering the pattern on its own.

Please note: Because of the nature of digital downloads, all pattern sales are final and refunds for patterns are not possible.

Important Info for our European and Australian customers

Due to VAT/GST regulations, we are unable to sell digital downloads on this site to our customers in the EU, UK, or Australia.  But don't worry! You can purchase this pattern via Ravelry by clicking here.
(...and, hey, if you'd be kind enough to let your elected officials know that the lack of small business provisions in VAT regulations are killing the ability of small businesses to trade with the EU/UK, that'd be really appreciated)

At SpaceCadet, we passionately believe that knitting and crocheting make people happier deep down inside and that nothing does that more than working with gorgeous, vibrant yarn. For us, dyeing is a cosmic adventure -- a wonderful process of mixing each shade by hand from primaries and seeing where the colour takes us. The result is yarn that is as exciting for you as it is for us. Come with us and explore the farthest reaches of SpaceCadet colour!

Very Important Stuff: All hand-dyed yarns can vary between and within dyelots and their true beauty is the individuality in every skein.  Please be sure to order enough yarn for your project, to reduce the chance of differences between your skeins.  If you'd prefer to reduce any variation in your project, we recommend alternating skeins every two rows in your project. Please remember that our photos are as accurate as possible, but the colours you see also depend on your computer monitor's settings. Where there are multiple skeins pictured, each is sold separately.
