This colourway is exclusive to current members of the SpaceMonster Mega Yarn Club. If you're are not in the club, please do not order this yarn. But do feel free to order other colourways from the SpaceCadet shop!

The Colourway:

Three beautiful options

• Winter Moss (the graphically varigated colourway in your parcel)
• River Rock (a painterly coordinating colourway)
• Lichenous (a semi-solid coordinating colourway)

From the SpaceCadet's Log:

The moss in the brook that runs past the SpaceCadet studio looks its most intense in the winter. That might seem counterintuitive, because the cold weather makes every other type of vegetation pale and fade and die away. But there is something about the moss clinging to the rocks along the edge of the water that is different. Maybe it’s because its green is intensified by the patches of snow and ice around it, or maybe it’s just that the paleness of every other green in the vicinity makes it appear more intense but, either way, the result is almost breathtaking.

Inspired by that lovely winter moss, we’ve dyed this collection of gorgeous greens. And to really up the intensity, each of them started first as blues.

For the main colour in your parcel, we created two blues, a deep, rich teal, and a softer, paler dusty blue.  We layered the latter along most of the length of the skeins, leaving a little natural colour here and there.  Then we dipped one end of them into the teal to create a pop. While the yarns had spent some time soaking in the hot dyebath, we mixed up a very soft, very yellow-y green and, lifting the hot skeins out of the pots, submerged them in the new colour.

The change was immediate: the dusty blue became a rustic mossy green, the teal transformed into an aqua, and the undyed spaces took on the original hue of the green.  Finally, as the dyebath was reaching temperature, we squirted over a splodge of purple (yes, purple) that instantly turned a rich brown.

The result is lovely, natural colourway that will knit or crochet up into a calico of both bright and muted shades that perfectly evoke the Winter Moss in the stream beside the studio.

Coordinating Colourways!

For the coordinating colourways, we mixed up the same colours but distributed them differently on the skeins. Our painterly colourway, River Rock, blends the hues along its length, letting them flow into one another to create beautifully blended shades. While our semi-solid, Lichenous, brings all the focus to that stunning aqua-teal, with just the tiniest hints of the other hues to bring out the colour.

The Yarn:

Capella is a fabulously smooshy single-ply worsted yarn that's perfect for bulkier, cool-weather projects.

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash Merino; 1-ply
Weight: Worsted; Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 195 yards per 100g

• An important note about skein matching:  As you all know, different dyelots rarely match perfectly, especially in hand-dyed yarns, and even more especially in a variegated colourway like this one. Although we will do everything in our power to replicate the yarns from first dyelot, the yarn you receive may not match perfectly. Do bear this in mind if an exact match is important to you. To minimise any visible impact when using hand-dyed yarns, we always recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows in your project.
