The Inspiration

Every now and again, I switch from a project knit in a fingering yarn to one worked in something much thicker and smooshier, and I always feel suddenly warm and cosy inside.  As if working with worsted yarn is how knitting and crocheting were meant to be…  curled up in a comfy chair, with an intriguing project, a steaming cuppa and good book, and maybe a view of not-quite-nice-enough weather through the window to make me feel perfectly content to stay exactly where I am.  And as my needles click softly and my project grows surprisingly quickly(!), everything in my little world feels magically, storybook perfect.

The Process

It was that soft feeling of cosiness that inspired this colourway.  We wanted to create colours that made us feel all at once deeply happy, delightfully content, and yet still a little intrigued.  So we started with a deliciously chocolate-y brown (because what brings on those particular feeling more than a satisfyingly good chocolate?) and poured it over one end of the skein.  
Now, what’s always fun about a colour like chocolate is that, because it’s mixed from all three primaries, the individual dyes can break out as the mixture travels along the undyed skein – literally the different colours racing along the wool fibers at different speeds – and the result can be magical.  In this case, it created a beautiful earthy green in some place, which I think just adds another layer to the feeling of contentedness.
But then, before it all got too mellow, we mixed a delightfully rich raspberry and poured that over the other end of the skein.  It’s luscious and intense, delicious and eye-catching.  And it instantly changes the colourway entirely from something that was subdued to something more graphic and yet still delightfully Storybook.

Two Bonus Colourways!

For the coordinating colourways, we continued in the theme.  Fairy Tale is those same hues dyed in a more painterly way, where we let the colours flow and merge along the skein.  And for Charmed, we softened the chocolate mix until it mellowed to a warm blush that almost glows.  
Use them for a larger project, to work as a gentle contrast, as very subtle stripes, or in softly changing colour blocks.

Cressida is a lofty and smooth yarn that's perfect for larger gauge projects.

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash Merino; 4-ply

  • An important note about skein matching:  As you all know, different dyelots rarely match perfectly, especially in hand-dyed yarns, and even more especially in a colourway as  variegated as this one. Although we will do everything in our power to replicate the yarns from first dyelot, the yarn you receive may not match perfectly. Do bear this in mind if an exact match is important to you. To minimise any visible impact when using hand-dyed yarns, we always recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows in your project.
