Three beautiful options
There are two golden hours that bookend every day: one as the sun rises and the other as the sun sets. And while I watch the sunset almost every day, I very rarely get to witness the sunrise. But on those rare occasions that I do, I am always blown away (and inevitably think, “I should do this more often!” …a plan that goes awry within twenty-four hours).
And while the golden hour at sunset is regularly truly golden, the sunrise is often very different. There’s a coldness to it, as the light of the fresh sun pushes the darkness away. The hues it brings are delicate… soft… veiled… and often shrouded in mist. The effect is truly magical.
So for this colourway, we decided to explore these gentle colours in our dyepots. We began by layering the yarn with a wash of ethereal pink, and let it sink into the fibers wherever it willed. Then we twisted the skeins and passed them through a delicate lilac, cool like the morning sky where the sun’s rays blend into the twilight. And finally, we poured over a cloud of muted sky blue, which swirled in the dyebath before settling softly into each skein.
The result is a painterly colourway with washes of soft colour layered against the natural hue of the yarn. As you knit or crochet, the stitches will gently move through their spectrum in your fingers and create a fabric of gently undulating shades that is at once as breath-taking and as understated as the early morning sunlight.
For our coordinating colourways, we used the same hues but changed our dyeing technique to create colourway that leans more toward a semi-solid, and another that uses the same hues in a more graphically variegated way.
Use them for a larger project, to work as a gentle contrast, as very subtle stripes, or in softly changing colour blocks.
