The Colourways

Three beautiful options

• Sizzling (the semi-solid colourway in your parcel)
• Tangy (a coordinating graphically variegated colourway)
• Piquant (a coordinating painterly colourway)

Sometimes we’re inspired by the weather or some celestial event. We’ve been inspired by books and movies, by deep conversations, even by club member suggestions. But for this colourway, we were inspired simply by the joy of creating colour in the studio.

We had been dyeing some mixed colourways and there were bowls of dye scattered all over the dyeing tables. Three of them were sitting close to one another and the colour together looked amazing. “This needs to be a colourway!” Jade and I both said, almost in unison. And so it began.

Now, we can’t help ourselves, so we adjusted the colours a little: I wanted your SpaceMonster colourway to be really intense, so we reworked the recipe to make the hues richer and deeper. The first colour we mixed was a vibrant lipstick red and then, before we submerged the yarn and just to really turn up the heat, we doubled the recipe. Then we layered over a wash of soft magenta and a cloud of deep rust, and let them settle onto the skeins wherever they flowed in the dyebath. The result is a semi-solid with beautiful saturation and gently undulating colour that will change subtly in your hands as you work with it.

Coordinating Colourways!

For the graphically variegated colourway, Tangy, we separated the three hues and dyed them onto distinct areas of each skein, so the colours really pop. And for the painterly skein, Piquant, we applied the dye in layers, allowing the colours to wash over one another and create a complex colourway with beautiful depth of shade.

Use them for a larger project, to work as a gentle contrast, as very subtle stripes, or in softly changing colour blocks.

The Yarn:

Vega is a worsted version of our incredibly popular cabled 8-ply Lyra. The result of this special plying technique is a yarn that is plump and round, with great stitch definition, extra durability and — best of all — super sproingy!

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash merino wool; cabled 8-ply
Weight: Worsted; Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 215 yards per 100g

• Order as many skeins as you like, and we will get them in the dyepots for you! Because this is a custom process, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for your order to be ready.

• An important note about skein matching:  As you know, different dyelots rarely match perfectly, especially in hand-dyed yarns, and even more especially in a variegated colourway like this one. Although we will do everything in our power to replicate the yarns from first dyelot, the yarn you receive may not match perfectly. Do bear this in mind if an exact match is important to you. To minimise any visible impact when using hand-dyed yarns, we always recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows in your project.
