There's hardly anything in the world so exciting as taking some unlikely colours, mixing them in unexpected ways, and then lifting the skeins out of the dyepots and... oh, it's magical!
And that's why we end up creating so many one-of-a-kind colourways, because we almost can't help ourselves!
Before the pandemic, we would reserve our One-Of-A-Kinds and Small Batches for shows, almost like a special treat for the folks who made the trip out to see us. But now that the pandemic has turned everything upside-down, it's felt like there hasn't been any opportunity to share these beauties.
Until we realised they're too good not to show everyone! Why don't we just put them in the shop and share them in the newsletter?"
Wait, yeah, why don't we?!?
So here they are! Every month or every two weeks (or, heck, every week if we've been that inspired!), we'll share with you the stunning Small Batches and gorgeous One-of-a-Kinds we've created.
Now, please be aware that all of the skeins in these Small Batches are the result of us playing with colour, so no two skeins are a perfect match. And they are, of course, first come first served -- when they are gone, they're gone.
But I think you'll agree that they are worth sharing, won't you?
Important buying notes:Oriana is a deceptive yarn! Its eight plies give like wool while you work your stitches (because it's 90% wool!), wear like iron (perfect for socks), but drapes just like cotton (for amazing shawls and swingy sweaters)
Lyra (leer-a or lie-ra) is beautifully spoingy yarn that's a joy to use. Named for a small constellation, Lyra's cabled 8-ply construction gives it a loftiness that feels fantastic, and the strength to used for anything from socks to sweaters.
Astrid is a lofty and light yarn that feels wonderful against your skin.
Vega is a worsted version of our incredibly popular cabled 8-ply Lyra. The result of this special plying technique is a yarn that is plump and round, with great stitch definition, extra durability and — best of all — super sproingy!is beautifully spoingy yarn that's a joy to use.
Elara is bulky yarn with an intriguing and distinctive texture, perfect for quick knits on big needles.
Cressida has a slightly rustic texture that's perfect for larger gauge projects.
Capella is a yarn you just keep reaching for... to squish... and squish... and squish. Its single-ply construction and soft-as-clouds merino create a poofiness that's just so touchable.
At SpaceCadet, we passionately believe that knitting and crocheting make people happier deep down inside and that nothing does that more than working with gorgeous, vibrant yarn. For us, dyeing is a cosmic adventure -- a wonderful process of mixing each shade by hand from primaries and seeing where the colour takes us. The result is yarn that is as exciting for you as it is for us. Come with us and explore the farthest reaches of SpaceCadet colour!
Very Important Stuff: All hand-dyed yarns can vary between and within dyelots and their true beauty is the individuality in every skein. Please be sure to order enough yarn for your project, to reduce the chance of differences between your skeins. If you'd prefer to reduce any variation in your project, we recommend alternating skeins every two rows in your project. Please remember that our photos are as accurate as possible, but the colours you see also depend on your computer monitor's settings. Where there are multiple skeins pictured, each is sold separately.
