The Colourway:

Three beautiful options

  • Respite (the colourway in your parcel)
  • Humidity (a coordinating colourway)
  • Dew Point (a coordinating colourway)

It can get so brutal toward the end of the summer. The temperature just keeps rising, the humidity is relentless, and it feels like there’s no end in sight.

But this collection of colourways was inspired by that brief Respite that can be found tucked away in cool corners: in the swift-moving waters of a creek running in a shaded hollow, in the soft breeze that blows across blue waters of a lake, or maybe a bracing wind that comes off the deep green ocean, or in the gentle mist of a waterfall cascading over moss-covered rocks deep along a wooded path.

To create this colourway, we began by mixing up two delightfully cool shades: one, a soft-yet-clear grass green and, the other, a beautifully crisp sky blue. Here we have our hot summer’s day. And then we layered them onto the skeins individually, allowing them to pool at the ends and blend in the center. Then we mixed up a deep green – deep like cool woodlands, deep like the depths of the sea – and gently lowered the skeins in, letting them drink up the colour. And then, as the dyebath began to heat up, we carefully poured over a wash of black, to cast cool shadows where it struck the skeins.

The result is complex colourway that will create the effect of an (almost) semi-solid in your final project but will be delightfully intriguing as you work with it, the yarn moving gently through its hues and the stitches changing gently in your fingers.

The Coordinating Colourways

Our painterly coordinating colourway, Humidity, we took those same hues and, like their namesake, sapped them of their energy, desaturating them into something soft and washy. The black melts into grey, the greens soften and cool, and the blue becomes just a hint.

And for our more graphically variegated coordinating colourway, Dew Point, we let the yarn soak the colours up in colour blocks, with clear divisions that carefully balance the thin line between, “Is it actually raining?” and “No, but it feels like I’m trying to breathe soup!”

Use them for a larger project, to work as a gentle contrast, as very subtle stripes, or in softly changing colour blocks.

The Yarn:

Vega is a worsted version of our incredibly popular cabled 8-ply Lyra. The result of this special plying technique is a yarn that is plump and round, with great stitch definition, extra durability and — best of all — super sproingy!

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash merino wool; cabled 8-ply
Weight: Worsted; Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 215 yards per 100g

  • An important note about skein matchingAs you know, different dyelots rarely match perfectly, especially in hand-dyed yarns, and even more especially in a variegated colourway like this one. Although we will do everything in our power to replicate the yarns from first dyelot, the yarn you receive may not match perfectly. Do bear this in mind if an exact match is important to you. To minimise any visible impact when using hand-dyed yarns, we always recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows in your project.
