The Colourways

Three beautiful options

  • Rose Coral (the painterly colourway in your parcel)
  • To Be By The Seaside (a coordinating graphically variegated colourway)
  • Precious (a coordinating semi-solid colourway)

I’ll let you in on a little secret: this colourway wasn’t meant to be this colour at all.  We had been experimenting with something different when a dye mix surprised us by producing a beautifully soft coral. Dipping one end into the dyebath and the lifting the skein high, the colour ran down the yarn like a wave across the beach, growing lighter and more ethereal as the dye water thinned.

And even though we’d intended to create a completely different colour, we were instantly smitten.  We loved its beachy vibe, the way it evokes the heat of a summer’s day and the cool of the sea at the same time.

But the sea is never pristine, and its beauty is in the contrasts. So we created a little complexity by adding to the dyebath a wash of faded brown in the dyebath, and then the lightest swish of soft green, a shadow of grey, and finally a squirt of clear, turquoise blue.

Coordinating Colourways!

For the coordinating colourways, we employed the same hues with different dyeing techniques. The graphic colourway, To Be By The Seaside, creates pools of colour that remind me of summer ice-creams eaten on the boardwalk with my toes in the sand.

And the semi-solid, Precious, recalls the colour of red coral hidden under the waves and valued the world over for making jewellery.

Use them for a larger project, to work as a gentle contrast, as very subtle stripes, or in softly changing colour blocks.

The Yarn:

Vega is a worsted version of our incredibly popular cabled 8-ply Lyra. The result of this special plying technique is a yarn that is plump and round, with great stitch definition, extra durability and — best of all — super sproingy!

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash merino wool; cabled 8-ply
Weight: Worsted; Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 215 yards per 100g

  • Order as many skeins as you like, and we will get them in the dyepots for you! Because this is a custom process, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for your order to be ready.

  • An important note about skein matching:  As you know, different dyelots rarely match perfectly, especially in hand-dyed yarns, and even more especially in a variegated colourway like this one. Although we will do everything in our power to replicate the yarns from first dyelot, the yarn you receive may not match perfectly. Do bear this in mind if an exact match is important to you. To minimise any visible impact when using hand-dyed yarns, we always recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows in your project.
