Two beautiful options
The transition from autumn to winter can be a gentle, gradual change that eases you softly from the beautiful colours of falling leaves to the cold and dark of deep winter. And while that measured decline can make the inevitable descent easier to accept, there’s always the chance that won’t be how the change comes.
This year, in Pittsburgh, winter seemed to arrive overnight. The temperatures dropped, the snowflakes swirled and, when we woke up, winter had arrived. Not that the snow had stuck – it wasn’t a winter wonderland exactly – but the world sparkled blue with fresh frost and slick ice.
That first morning of winter is always so exciting that I had to use it for the inspiration this colourway! We started by applying pale blue onto our skeins, letting it soak in unevenly and create interesting pockets of colour. Then, as we brought the temperature of the dyepots up, we layered deeper and deeper blues onto the yarn, one at a time, and all keeping that wonderful icy tone to produce beautiful depth of shade. Then we took it deeper still with streaks of soft grey. And, finally, a gentle wash of pink that immediately transformed into a cool winter purple, like pale morning shadows cast across the ice.
The result is a colourway that will alter and change as you work with it, shifting softly from those lightest icy tones into deeper hues of blue, grey, and purple. Work it in a textured stitch to make the most of the flowing colours and try pairing it with SpaceCadet colourways Frigia, Feather, Dark Skies, Breathless, and Plume.
For the coordinating colourway, we started with that same pink and this time took the colour in the other direction, adding blues in layer after layer to achieve a purple that is amazingly complex and yet so subtle. Use it paired with the yarn in your parcel for contrast or simply on its own for a beautifully cool project.
