Two beautiful options
From the SpaceCadet's Log:
It’s a paradox of the autumn season that, as the weather turns colder and duller, the world around us seems to turn warmer and more vibrant. The leaves burst into glorious reds and golds, fields are suddenly speckled with bright pumpkins, and trees are decorated with ripe apples. There are some greens left, of course, but they are fading, paling, and being replaced with shades to bring a little warmth to these cooler days. And we celebrate all of this by collecting those beautiful leaves into piles to jump in, by going on hayrides and gathering pumpkins, and by picking apples straight off the tree to test their delicious crunch.
And you can see all of that manifest in this lovely colourway. We started with a soft gold-green, the colour of dyeing grasses and wilting leaves, and passed that along the skeins. Then we layered on a rich autumn russet and watched as it merged with the green. Now, in truth, these two colours battle one another so in some places, the green tempered the russet into a soft pumpkin orange and, in others, it the russet dominated into a deep maple red. And where the two were evenly matched, they created a lush brown that pull everything together.
Once the battle between these two colours was settled, we dotted on little splodges of navy blue and turquoise, which instantly changed into inky-blacks and create a lovely contrast to the warm shades they rest against.
And even though these are colours that all fought against each other in the dyebath, once they are knit or crocheted, they flow and blend to create a washy, painterly effect that is breathtaking!
For the coordinating colour, Warm Cider, we applied that same gold-green and rich russet, but this time much more softly and allowed lots of the natural yarn colour showing through. And although the colours themselves didn’t change, the overall effect is incredible!
