Two beautiful options
From the SpaceCadet's Log:
The first time I went stargazing was a cold winter’s night, in a clearing in an orchard down a dark dirt road. We weren’t supposed to be there and the farmer would’ve probably run us off his land had he known, but it was the best place to see the winter constellations: far, far from the city and tucked away from any lights.
And as we stood there under the gently darkening sky, I realised for the first time how beautiful Nature’s Planetarium actually is. The atmosphere changing from blue to a deep purple before it faded to black. And the stars twinkling not just silver as I always thought, but also myriad colours from golds to blues and pinks. My favourites were the ones that looked both warm and cool at the same time: strange gold-green glowing embers of pure starlight that completely enchanted me, and left a special fondness for stargazing that has stayed with me ever since.
In order to reflect all the magic of the winter sky, we layered colour on colour on colour. Look carefully at your skein and you’ll see not only that wonderful deep purple, but also the soft blue of the early evening sky, patches of deeper aubergine, and maybe even some patches of warm brown. All dyed using a technique that allows the colours to mingle and strike in a way that creates a stunning painterly effect on the yarn. And mixed in are spots of starlit gold and the palest, coolest celestial green that will turn into splashes of light against that dark purple of the night sky. The result is a yarn that will work up into a beautiful mix of deep, complex colours highlighted by bright sparks for a truly intriguing project.
The coordinating colourway was dyed using the same colours but with all the emphasis on those lovely golds and greens with the purple creating the pop of colour. Look closely and you’ll spot a beautiful patina where the colours combine! Use it as an accent colour or for a project on its own.
We met Hannah Simons from Hannah’s Ideas in Wood at TNNA and fell immediately in love with her beautiful wooden fiber arts tools. She’s created this sweet custom phone stand out of wild cherry wood and set our lovely SpaceMonster under a night sky full of stars (look for the detail – and her signature – even on the back piece!). Fitted together, it holds your phone at the perfect angle; taken apart, it fits easily in a bag or even a pocket. I’ve been using mine daily to read my digital pattern while I knit and to hold my Kindle while I eat lunch. Regularly $30, it's available to club members for $26!
Fiber Content: 100% Superwash Merino; 1-ply
