Found Treasures: SpaceCadet One-of-a-Kinds

Sold out.

At SpaceCadet®, we dye every skein by hand from only primary colours, so we do a lot of experimentation. And that means we create some truly amazing one-of-a-kind colourways.

Until now, they were usually available only to customers who come to see us at shows, but why not bring them to everyone? They're first come, first serve and every one is unique so, if you see something you love, grab it before it's gone!

This update features:

  • Thebe, the silk-linen yarn used in Romi Hill's gorgeous new design, Knitting by The Pool
  • Astrid, our super smooshy merino DK
  • Cressida, our gorgeous, quick-knitting merino worsted, perfect for Mel Ski's Lovill Shawl

Each One-of-a-Kind's yarn type is in the dropdown menu, matched with the images to the left; see below for yarn and yardage details. As with all hand-dyed yarn, we recommend alternating skeins to minimize colour differences. And if you'd need a little help with that, watch this quick tutorial)

Thebe (thee-bee) is named for the fourth moon of Jupiter. Combining silk and linen into a heavy laceweight that gets softer and more lovely with age, Thebe has a swing and drape that is just wonderful.

    Fiber Content: 65% Silk, 35% Linen; 2-ply
Weight: Heavy Lace; Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 665 yards per 100g

How does this yarn take colour? Because of its high linen content, Thebe takes on colour much, much more softly than a woolen yarn. Think of Thebe as a faded pair of your most-loved jeans, and you'll have a good idea of how wonderful this yarn is.

Pattern suggestion: Knitting By The Pool by Romi Hill uses one skein of Thebe

Astrid is a lofty and light yarn that feels wonderful against your skin.

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash Merino; 4-ply
Weight: DK (double knitting); Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 230 yards per 100g

How does this yarn take colour? Astrid is 100% Superwash Merino, so it takes colour with a beautiful intensity

Cressida is a lofty and smooth yarn that's perfect for larger gauge projects.

Fiber Content: 100% Superwash Merino; 4-ply
Weight: Worsted; Each skein is approximately 3.5oz/100g, and the yarn contains approximately 230 yards per 100g

How does this yarn take colour? Cressida is 100% Superwash Merino and takes dye intensely but the yarn's thickness also gives a little softness to the colour

Pattern suggestion: Lovill Shawl by Mel Ski uses 1 skein of Cressida
