Two beautiful options
The SpaceCadet studio sits alongside a small creek that runs the length of a twisting, wooded ravine nestled between two steep and craggy rockfaces. It’s a view that’s so typical of western Pennsylvania – a little bit of wilderness tucked away around a corner, and in stark contrast to nearby rusting steel mills and gleaming new technology centers.
Drip Drip Drip (the colourway in your parcel)
Chill (a coordinating colourway)
In the winter, rain and snowmelt drip drip drip down the rocks to the valley floor, freezing and thawing with the changing temperatures. As they do, huge icicles form on the moss-covered rocks, growing to impressive lengths and slowly merging into one another until they create whole walls of ice. And when the sunlight hits them, passing right through and then bouncing back off the mosses beneath, they light up in unexpected shades of forest-green and sparkling ice-blue. It’s nothing short of breath taking.
To dye your latest Yarn Alliance colourway, we decided on a guest yarn we’ve long been excited about. A gorgeous blend of baby alpaca for softness, silk for beautiful luster, and linen for a lovely drape that will get softer and softer with time, it is a truly very special yarn indeed. And one that we knew would reflect the inspiration for this colourway perfectly, with each of the three fibers taking the dye lightly and reflecting the colours back so softly. And just turn it over in your hands to see how the silk creates that amazing ice-like sheen.
We started this colourway with a watery blue – much darker and more intense than what you see in the finished yarn – and let it soak in gently along the whole skein. Then we mixed a series of greens – some quite yellowy and others much deeper – and layered them on one at a time, letting them blend in some places and stay distinct in others, to give the yarn that magical tonal quality where the colour changes gently as the stitches glide through your fingers. And finally, as the dyepots were coming up to temperature and the colour was beginning to set, we poured over a little icy purple to reflect the dark shadows hidden amongst the rocks, letting it flow in the dyebath before it finally settled onto the yarn.
Every now and then we explore a Guest Yarn and this one has a fabulous and exciting combination of fibers!

A very important note: As you know, different dyelots rarely match perfectly, especially in hand-dyed yarns. Although we will do everything in our power to replicate the yarns from first dyelot, the yarn you receive may not match perfectly. Do bear this in mind if an exact match is important to you. To minimise any visible impact when using hand-dyed yarns, we always recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows in your project.
At SpaceCadet®, we passionately believe that knitting and crocheting make people happier deep down inside and that nothing does that more than working with gorgeous, vibrant yarn. For us, dyeing is a cosmic adventure -- a wonderful process of mixing each shade by hand from primaries and seeing where the colour takes us. The result is yarn that is as exciting for you as it is for us. Come with us and explore the farthest reaches of SpaceCadet® colour!
