Two beautiful options
So often, my dyeing is inspired by the seasons and the weather -- the changes in the world around us pervade the subconscious in ways we don't realise and I find they bubble up to the surface when I stand in front of the dyepots searching for inspiration. But I also find that, as it rolls around to this time of year, I don't really feel inspired by the grey skeins and old snow, all ragged and muddy at the edges.
Instead, my mind wanders to places more exciting, more adventurous... places that are just plain warmer! When I looked at the dyepots this month and searched for inspiration, I saw a small boat on a blue and green sea, punctuated by swirls of seaweed browns, white wave caps rolling toward the shore.
I started with the blue, combining turquoise and magenta to create a deep indigo, and then adding some black to make it darker still, layering it onto the skeins in a way to let the colour soak in to create wonderful depth of shade from that near-navy all the way out to the palest sea-glass blue. Then I mixed a rich brown and let it to run into the blue to create a third shade where they meet. And finally, I layered on some green, opening the skein up to let it blend into the white, the brown, and finally along the edge of the blue as well.
The result is a colourway that feels clean and refreshing, crisp and vibrant. The dye is layered in a way to create splotches of colour in your knitting and crochet -- experiment with different stitch patterns to see how differently they come out. And Dive into a little late-winter break!
As you can imagine, Deep is the same inspiration, just a couple of fathoms below the surface. The white and brown are gone and now we have only the blue -- deep and deeper still. Use it to create a larger project, combined with Dive or on its own. Either way, it’ll be stunning!
