The first time my assistant Jade twisted Oriana, she handed me the bag of skeins and said, "I twisted all that cotton yarn you gave me." And I tilted my head at her like a confused puppy because... we don't have any cotton yarns. But when I looked down and saw the bag was full of Oriana, I understood.
There is something magical about Oriana's eight plies. Sure, they lend incredible strength. You make a pair of socks with this yarn, and they are going to wear like iron.
I adore what Oriana does when you pair it with tiny, twisty stitches. The stitch definition is magnificent. And I love it for socks. It wears like iron.

But the real magic is the way Oriana drapes. The fabric just hangs beautifully. It swings and sways. It has a heaviness I can't explain except to say that it does behave a lot like cotton... but with all the memory and the elasticity and the stitches-feel-so-good-in-your-fingers-ness of wool.
So I get why Jade thought she was twisting cotton. Oriana is just a little tricky like that... and soooooo very much more than it first appears.
Oriana combines incredible drape for swingy shawls and cardigans, with a sock yarn work ethic that never gives in! It hangs like cotton but has the hand-feel and memory of wool, and its 8-ply construction gives it surprising durability.
Work it on smaller needles for socks, and try it on larger needles or hooks for wonderfully drapey shawls, wraps, pullovers, and cardigans.

At SpaceCadet, we passionately believe that knitting and crocheting make people happier deep down inside and that nothing does that more than working with gorgeous, vibrant yarn. For us, dyeing is a cosmic adventure -- a wonderful process of mixing each shade by hand from primaries and seeing where the colour takes us. The result is yarn that is as exciting for you as it is for us. Come with us and explore the farthest reaches of SpaceCadet colour!
Colour note for Zoot: Zoot is an electric turquoise so incredibly intense that it is literally off the scale of what a camera can capture so, while the image you see here is not true to the colour at all, it's not one to be missed!
Very Important Stuff: All hand-dyed yarns can vary between and within dyelots and their true beauty is the individuality in every skein. Please be sure to order enough yarn for your project, to reduce the chance of differences between your skeins. If you'd prefer to reduce any variation in your project, we recommend alternating skeins every two rows in your project. Please remember that our photos are as accurate as possible, but the colours you see also depend on your computer monitor's settings. Where there are multiple skeins pictured, each is sold separately.
